Hurstbourne Priors can be proud of a fantastic team display that overturned an unbeaten side in gripping circumstances. Batting first, Priors made a decent start with Vinay hitting a quick-fire 22. Hamson (38) and Shahinian (34) marshalled the middle overs and were determined to make the home side work hard for their wickets. The home side bowled well but could only manage two wickets. With the game in the last few overs, Budd (36) and Ashok (26) put together a fantastic partnership for the sixth wicket, powering 6 boundaries. Priors reached 185 for 5 at tea, leaving the home side an under par score to chase. Priors response was immediate when Hamson removed Pickett without scoring. The home side then played patiently to see off the opening bowlers but Priors first change bowler, Stewart Samways (4-16), removed Lawrence in his first over. Haigh (59) continued to bat well and the batsmen looked on song to achieve the target. When Haigh was removed by Samways and Page skittled Selwyn, the game was set up for a grandstand finish. Priors seem to lose their way immediately when Piglet was smashed for 19 in one over and the captain immediately banished him to fine leg, replacing him with Toby Trinder. Trinder responded to the captain's request by bowling Read with a vicious swinging delivery, leaving the game on a knife edge. Priors’ skipper turned to Page to bowl the last over who turned back the clock to restrict the home side to only five runs, leaving them 3 runs short of victory.
